A Clear Guide to the Breathwork Experience at Confluence Breath & Bodywork
Breathwork can be deeply healing, energetically moving, and unlike anything you've experienced before. Whether you're attending your first session or returning to the practice, it's helpful to know what to expect during breathwork before you begin.
At Confluence Breath & Bodywork, we use Conscious Connected Breathing to support nervous system regulation, emotional release, and deep self-awareness. Our sessions are trauma-sensitive and guided, designed to help you feel safe and supported every step of the way.
The Flow of a Breathwork Session
Each session follows a thoughtfully structured format:
Opening and welcome
Grounding and intention setting
Guided Conscious Connected Breathing
Rest and integration
Closing reflection
You'll be lying down for the duration of the session on a yoga mat, blanket, or soft surface. Music is used throughout to support your emotional journey, and gentle verbal guidance is offered to help you stay present and connected to your breath.
What You May Experience
Every breathwork session is different, because every person, every day, and every breath is different. These are common sensations and responses, but your experience will be unique to you.
Physical Sensations
Tingling or vibration in the hands, face, or body
Muscle tension or release
Waves of heat, coolness, or lightness
Dry mouth or throat activation
Feeling weightless or deeply grounded
These responses are natural. They reflect increased oxygen, emotional movement, and nervous system activation.
Emotional Responses
Waves of emotion, including sadness, joy, anger, or relief
Crying, laughter, or spontaneous sound
Memories or inner imagery surfacing
Feelings of peace, gratitude, or connection
There is no right or wrong emotional response in breathwork. All emotions are welcome. You are encouraged to allow whatever arises to move through without judgment.
Energetic Awareness
A sense of expansion or inner spaciousness
Intuitive insights or clarity
Vivid visuals or color
Connection to something greater or deeply internal
Energetic awareness may be subtle or powerful. Trust that your breath knows exactly what to bring forward.
Consent and Self-Regulation
You are always in control of your experience. If at any point something feels too intense or uncomfortable, you can:
Shift to slower or nasal breathing
Place a hand on your heart or belly
Open your eyes or change position
Pause your breath entirely
Let your facilitator know if support is needed
Your experience will never be forced. At Confluence, your comfort and safety are the foundation of everything we offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I don't feel anything?
Some sessions are subtle, others are more intense. Both are valid. Trust that the breath is working, even if the effects are not immediately noticeable.
Do I have to breathe in a specific way the entire time?
You'll be guided throughout the session. You can always adjust or take breaks as needed. There is no pressure to do it "perfectly."
Will I be okay afterward?
Yes. You may feel calm, energized, tired, or emotional. These are all normal and temporary. We allow time for rest and integration at the end of each session.
After the Session
After breathwork, your system may still be processing the experience. It's important to give yourself time and space to integrate. To support this, we recommend:
Drinking water
Resting or spending time in nature
Journaling your reflections
Being gentle with yourself

Final Thoughts
Breathwork meets you exactly where you are. No two sessions are alike, and each time you return to the breath, you create space for healing, clarity, and connection.
If you're new to the practice or returning with new intention, know that you are supported, guided, and never alone in the process.
