A Gentle Guide to the Energy Healing Experience at Confluence Breath & Bodywork
Reiki is a restorative, hands-on (or hands-hovering) energy practice that promotes deep relaxation, stress relief, and inner balance. Whether you're new to Reiki or revisiting the practice, it's natural to wonder what to expect during Reiki.
At Confluence Breath & Bodywork, we hold each session with presence, care, and intuitive guidance, whether you're joining us in Bend, Oregon or receiving Reiki remotely from your own home.
Here's what to expect once your session begins.
A Safe and Supportive Space
Reiki sessions are designed to be calming and grounding from the moment you arrive. We'll begin with a short check-in to learn how you're feeling, identify any areas of focus, and create a safe container for your experience.
You'll then be invited to lie down comfortably, fully clothed, on a massage table (for in-person sessions) or on your own mat or bed (for virtual sessions). You can close your eyes, relax, and simply receive.
The Flow of a Reiki Session
A typical Reiki session includes:
A gentle welcome and intention setting
Guided grounding or breath awareness (optional)
Hands-on or hands-hovering Reiki energy transmission
Periods of silence and intuitive support
A closing rest and short reflection
Soft music may play in the background, and essential oils may be offered if you're attending in person and prefer to use them.
What You Might Feel
Reiki affects everyone differently. Some people experience clear sensations; others feel subtler shifts. All are valid. Here are some common physical, emotional, and energetic responses:
Physical Sensations
Warmth or coolness under the practitioner's hands
Tingling, pulsing, or subtle waves of energy
A sensation of heaviness or lightness in the body
Deep relaxation or even sleep
Emotional Responses
A sense of calm, release, or peace
Unexpected emotions like sadness or joy surfacing
Gentle emotional shifts or a feeling of being "unblocked"
Energetic Awareness
Feeling energy move through the body
Inner visuals or intuitive impressions
A sense of being rebalanced, harmonized, or realigned
You don't need to understand or interpret what you feel. Reiki works beyond the thinking mind and meets you exactly where you are.
Virtual Reiki Sessions: What to Know
Distance Reiki is just as effective as in-person sessions. The practitioner connects with your energy field remotely and sends healing in the same guided way. You may feel:
Subtle shifts in sensation
Inner stillness or emotion
A deep sense of connection, even through the screen
Make sure you're in a quiet, private space and have time to rest afterward.
You Are in Control
Throughout the session, you are always in charge of your experience. You're welcome to:
Speak or ask for adjustments
Shift positions or take a break
Share how you're feeling at any point
There is no pressure to "feel something" or have a specific outcome. Reiki honors your natural rhythm and energetic capacity.
After the Session
Once the session ends, we'll take a few moments to check in. You may feel grounded, light, emotional, or inspired. All responses are welcome. We recommend drinking water, resting, and allowing space for integration in the hours that follow.

Final Thoughts
Reiki is gentle, non-invasive, and deeply intuitive. You don't need to do anything but show up and breathe. Whether you feel energy move or simply rest in stillness, your system will receive what it needs.
Healing doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes, it looks like rest, silence, or simply being seen.
